Saturday 31st January 2009 saw the 2nd meeting of the Northern Badger Groups, whose conservation activities cover an area from South Yorkshire across to Lancashire and north to the Scottish border. They are members of the Badger Trust and have links to groups in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The meeting was attended by Police Officers from many of the forces in the northern area, along with representatives from Natural England, the Police National Wildlife Crime Unit, the RSPCA and the RSPB.
Discussions were primarily on how all organisations could work more collaboratively to fight crime against Badgers.
Improved collaboration is planned to increase the information and intelligence gathering which will allow better analysis and targeting of resources.
The meeting was hosted jointly by Northumberland Badger Group and Durham County Badger Group.

Jan 2008 - The creation of a Website
This website is our latest venture, due to be launched in April/May 2008.
We hope it gives enough information to be interesting and useful. It cannot provide full and detailed information about the biology of the badger, but what is included should be as up to date and accurate as current research suggests.
Members of the group have provided photographs (Paul Truby and Lesley McNaughton); others photos/pictures have been taken from a google search! We will try and acknowledge them in the coming months or replace them with our own, but if anyone takes offence at their use or it breaches copyright please let us know and we will sort it out.
If anyone finds anything that is complete nonsense please let us know.
We will endeavour to keep the website regularly updated (at least every 2nd month).
Future plans may include providing space for a discussion forum, for instance to thrash out the pros and cons of feeding badgers, or to express an opinion about bovine TB, rehabilitation etc.
